Bob Eberly was born Robert Eberle on July 24, 1916. He launched his career after winning an amateur talent contest on Fred Allen's radio program in 1935, earning a spot with the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra before joining Jimmy Dorsey's orchestra, where he remained until late 1943. During the early 1940s, Eberly and Helen O'Connell recorded hits with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, including "Amapola" and "Tangerine". In 1942, he also recorded the original version of "I'm Glad There Is You", which became a jazz and pop standard. Notable recordings include "It's the Dreamer in Me" with Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra (1938). Eberly continued to perform despite health issues, including having one lung removed in 1980. He passed away on November 17, 1981, at the age of 65.
