Biography
William Sigurd Bourne was a Canadian musician. Influenced by his parentsâ musical background, he initially trained as a mechanic but began performing professionally in the mid-1970s, both as a solo artist and with bands such as Sweetgrass and The Tannahill Weavers. His 1990 album Dance and Celebrate, a collaboration with Alan MacLeod, won a Juno Award in 1991. Throughout his career, Bourne collaborated with artists including Shannon Johnson and Faroese singer Eivør Pálsdóttir, releasing notable albums such as Dear Madonna (1994), Voodoo King (2002), and Bluesland (2011). He won three Juno Awards and received eight nominations, earning recognition for his musical versatility and mentorship of young artists. Bourne also led community music initiatives and projects like Tri-Continental and the Free Radio Band. He passed away from cancer on April 16, 2022.
