Bezunesh Bekele, born in 1936 in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, was a prominent Ethiopian singer. She began her musical journey singing in a church choir during her childhood and adolescence. In 1955, she moved to Addis Ababa and joined Kibur Zebegna's team as a chorist. Bekele's breakthrough came in 1957 when fans encouraged her to audition for the radio, leading to her debut as a solo artist. Known for her striking presence and elegance on stage, Bekele recorded popular titles throughout the 1960s and 1970s, often performing in Amharic. She collaborated with Mahmoud Ahmed and performed with bands such as the Imperial Body Guard Band and the Dahlak Band. Bekele's influence earned her the title First Lady of Ethiopian Popular Music.
