Biography
Yaron Herman â born in Tel Aviv, Israel on July 12, 1981 - is a French Israeli musician, considered by many as one of the most influential pianists of his generation. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with a wide array of artists, such as Michel Portal, Avishai Cohen, and Pat Metheny, among others. Yaron Herman started studying piano at the age of 16, after a knee injury ended his aspirations of becoming a professional basketball player. His first solo album, Variations, was released in 2006 to great critical acclaim. 2007âs A Time for Everything, featured covers of popular songs by famous artists such as Leonard Cohen, Britney Spears, and The Police. The album won him the Victoire du jazz award as Revelation of the year in 2008. He was nominated once again the following year for his 2009 album, Muse. Follow the White Rabbit (2010), his fifth album, combined covers of alternative rock acts like Radiohead and Nirvana with traditional Israeli music. Everyday (2015), Yaron Hermanâs debut album for Blue Note Records, was recorded as a duo with drummer Ziv Ravitz. His next two albums - Y (2017) and Songs of the Degrees (2019) - further cemented his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the French jazz scene. In 2022, Yaron Herman returned with the Alma, an album that featured the pianist performing improvised solo compositions. The album rose to Number 11 on Franceâs Jazz Albums chart.
