Biography

Bassline Boys is a Belgian production duo comprising Fabian Van Messen and Marc Neuttiens. In 1989, at a time when Belgium was experiencing the effervescence of the newbeat movement, they composed the single "Warbeat", based on excerpts from speeches by Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitler. A report on Christophe Dechavanne's program Ciel mon mardi likened "Warbeat" to the music of neo-Nazi drug addicts. Stung by this defamatory portrayal, the Bassline Boys responded to the TV host with the release of "On se calme", a track which, ironically, proved a big hit on the radio and in clubs. The duo continued their humorous formula, sampling celebrities such as soccer coach Raymond Goethals on "Magouille!" in 1990. The same year, they cover Queen's "We Will Rock You" in a rap version. The Bassline Boys gradually ceased their activity after the publication of the vulgar " Je suis une grosse folle! / De Vuil Janet " in 1992.
