Biography

A Split‑Second, a Belgian electronic body music group formed in 1985 by Marc Heyndrickx under the pseudonym Marc Ickx, emerged from a solo project that recorded the demo Stained Impressions with Peter Bonne. The duo’s first single, "Flesh", released on Antler Records in 1986, positioned the band as a pioneer of the new beat movement and led to the 1987 album Ballistic Statues. After the departure of electronic musician Philip Vargod, Peter Bonne joined as an official member, and the group issued the single "Rigor Mortis" the same year. In 1988 the band signed with Wax Trax! Records in the United States, releasing A Split‑Second and From The Inside, the latter featuring the track "Colosseum Crash". The single "Mambo Witch" reached Number 29 on the Billboard U.S. Dance Club charts in 1989, and the 1990 album Kiss of Fury produced the hit "The Parallax View", which peaked at Number 19 on the same chart in 1991. After touring the United States twice in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the group returned to Belgium, re‑emerging in 2001 and headlining the 2012 Bodybeats festival. The band’s early releases, chart successes, and influence on the new beat genre remain significant milestones in Belgian electronic music history.
