S'Express, a British dance music group from England, was formed in 1988. The main player in the act was disc jockey and producer Mark Moore. S'Express gained early commercial success with their debut single "Theme From S-Express," which reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks in April 1988. This track, containing elements from Rose Royce's "Is It Love You're After," was among the earliest recordings to capitalize on sampling culture and also made an impact on the US charts. In 1989, S'Express released their debut album Original Soundtrack, featuring a lineup that included Pascal Gabriel, Jocasta, Mark D, Linda Love, and Michellé. The album included extended versions of hits like "Theme From S-Express" and "Superfly Guy," which peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart. Their follow-up single "Hey Music Lover," a cover version of Sly and the Family Stone's track, reached number 6 in the UK. By 1991, the group had evolved into a duo with Moore and vocalist DJ Sonique, releasing their second album Intercourse. This album spawned several mid-charting singles, including "Nothing to Lose," co-written with Martin Gordon. Although not as commercially successful as their debut, it maintained their presence in the club scene. S'Express disbanded in 1994 but returned briefly in the 2010s with the album Enjoy This Trip (2016), which featured several remixes of some of their biggest hits.
