AgustÃn Castellón Campos, known as Sabicas, was born on March 18, 1912, in Pamplona, Spain. He began playing guitar at age five, influenced by his uncle Ramón Montoya and Manuel Gómez Vélez. By seven, he performed publicly at the Teatro Gayarre. In Madrid, Sabicas debuted at Teatro El Dorado with La Chelito and gained recognition as a prodigious talent. Sabicas' solo album Flamenco Puro (1961) was released. He later experimented with fusion genres, notably on Rock Encounter (1970) with Joe Beck. Sabicas left Spain during the civil war and settled in New York, where he performed at venues like Radio City Music Hall. His final tribute occurred at Carnegie Hall on June 10, 1989. He died in New York on April 14, 1990.
