Badmarshâ¯&â¯Shri were an English electronic dance music duo formed in London, comprising DJ Mohammed Akber Ali, known as Badmarsh, who was born in Yemen, and tabla player Shrikanth Sriram, known as Shri, who hails from India. After Badmarshâs early work at a reggae studio and a residency at the club Labyrinth, and Shrikanth Sriramâs fiveâyear tour with Nitin Sawhney, the pair were brought together by Shabs of Outcaste Records, who believed their distinct sounds would complement each other. In 1998 they released their debut album Dancing Drums, which blended drum and bass, hip hop, Indian classical music, and jazz and received a fourâstar rating from AllMusic. Three years later, Signs followed, produced with Mike Spencer, and the title track was featured in the closing credits of the film Battle in Seattle and peaked at number 63 on the UK Singles Chart.
