Back Door was a British jazz-rock trio formed in 1971. The group consisted of Colin Hodgkinson on bass guitar and vocals, Ron Aspery on saxophone and keyboards, and Tony Hicks on drums. They recorded their debut album, Back Door, and initially sold it at their regular venue, The Lion Inn. After positive reviews, including from NME, Back Door secured a slot at The Senate, and then booked a stint at Ronnie Scott's club in London, opening for Chick Corea. Their second album, 8th Street Nites, was released in 1973 through Warner Bros. Records. Subsequent albums included Another Fine Mess (1975) and Activate (1976). After Activate, the band's activity decreased, leading to their eventual disbandment around 1977. The original lineup reunited briefly for a show at Ronnie Scott's in 1986 and recorded the album Askin' The Way in 2003. Aspery passed away in 2003, followed by Hicks in 2006.
