Biography

Tuba Skinny, an American jazz band formed in New Orleans in 2009, is known for their performances of early jazz, ragtime, and blues music from the 1920s and 1930s. The group's instrumentation includes cornet, clarinet, trombone, tuba, tenor banjo, guitar, frottoir, and vocals. Many members were transplants who had been performing in various street bands before coalescing into Tuba Skinny. Their debut album, Tuba Skinny was released in 2009, followed by subsequent albums including Six Feet Down (2010) and Garbage Man (2011). Over the next decade and a half, Tuba Skinny released over a dozen albums and globally toured. Their music has garnered several awards, with publications such as OffBeat ranking them among the leading traditional jazz bands active today.
