Biography

Autograph was an American glam metal band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1983. The group began their career by playing and recording together before choosing the name Autograph while driving to a show with Van Halen in January 1984. Their breakthrough came when record producer Andy Johns invited them to re-record demos at Record Plant Studios, leading to an opening slot for Van Halen's 1984 tour. This exposure helped Autograph secure a contract with RCA Records following a performance at Madison Square Garden. Autograph released their debut album Sign In Please in October 1984, which included the hit single "Turn Up the Radio". The song became a top-30 hit and pushed album sales past the gold mark (500,000 copies sold). It was featured in an episode of Miami Vice and several films. The band followed up with That's the Stuff in 1985 and Loud and Clear in 1987, both of which achieved moderate success. They toured extensively with bands like Mötley Crüe, Heart, and Van Halen. However, despite their initial popularity, Autograph left RCA Records in 1988 and disbanded in December 1989 due to internal changes and declining record sales. Their music has since been featured in various films, TV series, video games, and compilation albums, ensuring their enduring presence in popular culture.
