Biography

Ass Ponys was an American indie rock band that formed in 1988. The Cincinnati-based group released their debut album, Mr. Superlove, in 1990, followed by Grim in 1992. They gained significant attention with the release of "Little Bastard" from their third album, Electric Rock Music (1994), which peaked at number 26 on the US Billboard Modern Rock chart. Ass Ponys toured nationally with bands such as Pavement and Throwing Muses. The band released several more albums, including The Known Universe in 1996 and Some Stupid With A Flare Gun in 2000. Ass Ponys went on hiatus in 2005 after releasing their compilation album The Okra Years. Bassist and backing vocalist Randy Cheek died in 2024.
