Biography

María Dolores Castellón Vargas, known professionally as Dolores Vargas “La Terremoto,” was a Spanish singer of flamenco, flamenco-pop, and Catalan rumba who began her career at Madrid’s Teatro Calderón, where she performed with her brother Enrique, better known as El Príncipe Gitano. She also worked as an actress, appearing in films such as Veraneo en España in 1956, Toreo por alegrías in 1957, and Un torero para la historia in 1974. Throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, she released albums including Furious! with Sabicas and Los Compañeros del Flamenco in 1959, The Gypsy Earthquake in 1960, and Real Gypsy in 1975, while becoming popular for songs such as “Achilipú,” “A tu vera,” “Tío, tío, tío,” and “La Moto.” She retired from singing after the death of her husband in 1987 and died on August 7, 2016, in Valencia, Spain.
