Biography

Angelika Mann was born on June 13, 1949 in West Berlin. She is a German singer and actress who is considered a formative figure in the German-speaking music and theater scene with roots in the GDR. From 1969, after training as a pharmacy assistant and further training in singing and piano at the Friedrichshain Music School in East Berlin, Angelika Mann began her first musical activities in productions such as the Klaus Lenz Big Band and worked with Uschi Brüning, Manfred Krug, Günther Fischer and Reinhard Lakomy. In 1975 and 1976, she achieved success with duo titles with Reinhard Lakomy. From 1980 to 1984, she celebrated great success with her band Obelisk under bandleader Andreas Bicking, which won a gold medal at the VI Interpretenwettbewerb der Unterhaltungskunst in 1982. In 1984, she applies to leave the GDR and settles in West Berlin in 1985. After emigrating, she seamlessly resumed her career and from 1987 appeared as Lucy in Die Dreigroschenoper at the Theater des Westens, in Hamburg, Cologne and at guest performances in Spoleto and Tokyo. Over the years, a diverse stage and musical career followed, including roles in Hansel and Gretel, engagements at Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast and in numerous solo programs. Angelika Mann's musical repertoire includes pop, chanson, pop songs and contributions to children's and music productions as well as solo concerts. Her albums include Was treibt mich nur? (1981), Lieder vom SchlackerSchnick (1987/1994), Das Geburtstagspferd (1995) and Meine Lieder (1998). She also released Hier kommt zusammen was zusammen gehört (2004) with Frank Golischewski, Märchenrätsel mit Angelika Mann (2004) and Ihre großen Erfolge (2008). Chart positions are not documented in official hit lists. She is also represented as a contributor on albums such as Der Traumzauberbaum (1980). In 2019, Angelika Mann received the German Musical Theater Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her portrayal of Queen Anne Stuart in The Man with the Laugh. She remains an important reference point in German theater and entertainment music. Angelika Mann dies on January 21, 2026 in Berlin-Rudow as a result of cancer.
