Biography

Klaus Lenz, born on March 22, 1940, in Berlin, Germany, was a musician, trumpeter, composer, and bandleader known for his contributions to jazz music. He began playing the trumpet as a child and studied at the Berlin Music School from 1956 to 1958. Lenz's career started with Eberhard Weise's orchestra in Görlitz in 1958, followed by Max Reichelt's Tanz- und Schauorchester in 1960. In 1961, he founded Quintet 61, which later became the Klaus-Lenz-Sextett. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, Lenz led ensembles like the Klaus-Lenz-Bigband and the Klaus-Lenz-Orchester, producing albums such as Manfred Krug und die Modern Jazz Big Band 65. In 1972, he formed the Klaus-Lenz-Modern-Soul-Big-Band. After moving to West Germany in 1977, Lenz continued his musical journey with the Klaus Lenz Jazz & Rock Machine, releasing albums like Fusion and Sleepless Nights.
