Wolfgang Ziegler was born on 8 October 1943 in Rostock, Germany, and emerged as a German popârock singer and composer. After completing his Abitur in the GDR and a vocational apprenticeship as a motor mechanic, he entered the music scene in the early 1960s, studying piano as a student and joining the BeatâQuartett that evolved into the popular Baltics of northern East Germany. In 1966 he composed film music for the DEFA feature Die Reise nach Sundevit. Between 1970 and 1973 Ziegler pursued vocal studies at the Studio for Entertainment Arts in East Berlin and composition at the Hochschule für Musik âHanns Eislerâ. He coâfounded the group WIR in 1972, touring for fourteen years and releasing albums such as Im Spiegel deiner Augen (1977) and Ebbe und Flut (1984). In 1986 Ziegler transitioned to a solo career, achieving a breakthrough with the single "Verdammt!" in 1987, which earned a music video in the GDR and a chart position in the German singles list. Subsequent solo releases included Hass Mich Wenn Du Kannst (1991), reaching number 75 on the German charts, and Verführ Mich (1998).
