Biography

Holger Biege was born on September 19, 1952, in Greifswald, Germany. He trained as a pianist and singer at the Friedrichshain Music School in East Berlin and joined the Schubert Band in 1975. His debut album Wenn der Abend kommt (When Evening Comes) in 1978 featured his hit song "Sagte mal ein Dichter" ("A Poet Once Said"). Biege's second album, Circulus, was released in 1979. He won "Artist of the Year" from the youth magazine Neues Leben for both years. After moving to West Berlin in 1984, he released his third album, Das eigene Gesicht (My Own Face). Biege faced financial difficulties and health issues but remained active until his death on April 25, 2018.
