Anajo was a German indie pop group formed in Augsburg in 1999 by Oliver Gottwald (vocals, guitar), Michael Schmidt (bass, keyboards) and Ingolf Nössner (drums). The trio began by recording demo CDs and selling them at concerts, with the early single "Ich hol dich hier raus" achieving a topâ5 position on Austrian youth radio FM4 before signing with Hamburg indie label Tapete Records in 2004. Their debut album Nah bei mir was released on â¯October, â¯2004, receiving positive reviews for its fresh guitar pop and subtle electronic touches. In February 2007, the band released Hallo, wer kennt hier eigentlich wen?, which entered the German albums chart at number⯠51; the single "Wenn du nur wüsstest" reached number⯠58 on the German singles chart and earned the band a ninthâplace finish at the Bundesvision Song Contest representing Bavaria. Subsequent releases included the orchestral Anajo und das Poporchester (Novemberâ¯, 2009) and the liveârecorded Drei (Februaryâ¯, 2011). Anajo toured extensively across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ukraine and Russia, and collaborated with artists such as Suzie Kerstgens. In 2014, the members announced an indefinite break due to family commitments, marking the end of the bandâs active period.
