Biography

Alick Macheso is a Zimbabwean Sungura singer and guitarist born on June 10, 1968, in Shamva. He performed with the Khiama Boys under Nicholas Zakaria before establishing the ensemble Orchestra Mberikwazvo in 1997. Macheso released his debut solo studio recording, Magariro, in 1998. His 2000 album, Simbaradzo, became the best-selling recording in Zimbabwean history and featured the tracks “Mundikumbuke” and “Amai VaRubhi”. His discography included the recordings Zvakanaka Zvakadaro (2001) and Vapupuri Pupurai (2005). In 2011, he established the Zora Butter dance. Macheso performed as a singer and dancer while playing the bass, lead, and rhythm guitars. His later work included the studio recordings Tasvitswa Nashe (2022) and Kupa Kuturika (2024). He served as an ambassador for the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations.
