Alesh, whose real name is Alain Chirwisa, was born on April 8, 1985 in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo. Born into a family with a passion for the arts, he discovered his love for music at an early age, and chose to use it as a tool to raise social and political awareness. In 2006, he made a name for himself with"Ãveil", a politically committed single that made a big impact in the middle of an election campaign. In 2010, he released his debut album La mort dans l'âme and founded the Mental Engagé label to promote hip-hop with a social content. In 2014, he toured the United States and presented his album to Barack Obama at the White House. Between 2017 and 2021, he released a string of hit songs, including"O'a Motema Mabe" and"Biloko Ya Boye", which became anthems of protest. In 2021, he won RFI's Prix Découverte for his album Mongongo. In 2024, he released"Awa Oyé". Committed and influential, Alesh continues to use his music to raise awareness and denounce injustice.
