Al Massrieen was an Egyptian pop ensemble formed in 1977. The group was founded by Hany Shenoda, who received advice from the writer Naguib Mahfouz to adopt a modern musical direction. The original lineup consisted of Shenoda, Mona Aziz, Iman Younis, Tahseen Yalmaz, Mamdouh Qassem, and Omar Fatih. The bandâs sound blended traditional Egyptian elements with disco, psych rock, and jazz. Their work was primarily released on cassettes during the 1970s and 1980s, including the 1979 release Longa 79. Following the group's disbandment in 1988, the German label Jakarta Records/Habibi Funk compiled their recordings. In 2017, the label released the album Habibi Funk 006: Modern Music, featuring tracks such as "Asef Gedan", "Ebda'Men Gedid", and "Sah". This compilation introduced the ensemble's music to an international audience.
