Abysmal Dawn is an American technical death metal ensemble formed in 2003 in Los Angeles, California. The group was established by Charles Elliott, Jamie Boulanger, and Terry Barajas. The ensemble circulated a three-song demo in 2004 and performed with acts such as Exodus and Hate Eternal. The band released its debut studio recording, From Ashes, in April 2006 through Crash Music, Inc. Its discography featured the studio recordings Programmed to Consume (2008) and Leveling the Plane of Existence (2011), both released under Relapse Records. In October 2014, the ensemble released the studio album Obsolescence, which was ranked Number 1 on a metal album list by The Village Voice. The group released the studio recording Phylogenesis in 2020 through Season of Mist and the EP Nightmare Frontier in 2022. Elliott remained the sole constant member throughout various lineup changes.
