Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet is an American acoustic group that was established in 2005. The band consists of Abigail Washburn on banjo and vocals, Béla Fleck on banjo, Casey Driessen on violin, and Ben Sollee on cello. Drawing on old-time music and Chinese melodic and lyrical elements, the groupâs sound reflects Washburnâs long-standing connection to Chinese culture. Their debut album, Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet, was released on May 20, 2008, through Nettwerk Records. After the albumâs release, the group set out on a North American tour spanning more than one hundred dates, which included an opening performance for Earl Scruggs in Seattle, where Fleck also appeared onstage with Scruggs.
