Zuzana RůžiÄková, born on January 14, 1927, in PlzeÅ, Czech Republic, was a harpsichordist known for her interpretations of classical and baroque music. She began taking piano lessons at age nine and was introduced to the works of Johann Sebastian Bach by her teacher Marie ProvaznÃková. RůžiÄková's early musical training was interrupted by World War II, during which she was imprisoned in Nazi concentration camps, including Terezin and Auschwitz. After the war, she resumed her musical studies and became the first harpsichordist to record Bach's complete works for keyboard in the 1960s and 1970s for Erato Records. Throughout her career spanning over five decades, RůžiÄková performed worldwide, recorded more than 100 recordings, and taught prominent musicians such as Christopher Hogwood. She passed away on September 27, 2017.
