Biography

Jozef Guillaume Dymphna "Zjef" Vanuytsel, born July 6, 1945 in Mol, Belgium, was a singer and guitarist known for his contributions to folk music and kleinkunst. He began composing and singing during high school. Vanuytsel debuted with the album De zotte morgen (1970), which sold over 100,000 copies in Flanders and the Netherlands. The title track "De Zotte Morgen" and the single "Houten Kop" became classics in Dutch language music. Throughout the 1970s, he released several albums including Er is geen weg terug (1973), De zanger (1976), and De stilte van het land (1978). In 2007, Vanuytsel released the album Ouwe makkers. He died from cancer on December 30, 2015 in Leuven, Belgium.
