Biography

Yumi Zouma, a New Zealand alternative pop band from Christchurch, Canterbury, was formed in 2014 by Josh Burgess (vocals, guitar, keyboards, sampler), Charlie Ryder (guitar, bass, keyboards), and Kim Pflaum (vocals, guitar). Their debut release, EP I, gained significant attention in early 2014, leading to a signing with Cascine Records. By 2015, Christie Simpson (vocals, keyboards), Sam Perry (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Olivia Campion (drums) joined the group, replacing Kim Pflaum. The band released their debut full-length album, Yoncalla, in 2016, featuring singles "Keep It Close to Me" and "Barricade (Matter of Fact)". Their second album, Willowbank, followed in 2017 with notable tracks like "Depths (Pt. I)" and "Half Hour". In 2018, they released EP III, featuring singles "In Camera" and "Crush (It's Late Just Stay)". After signing with Polyvinyl Record Co. and Inertia Music in 2020, Yumi Zouma released their third studio album, Truth or Consequences, which included the singles "Right Track / Wrong Man", "Cool For a Second" and "Southwark". Later that year, Truth or Consequences was followed by an alternative version. The band released the album Present Tense in 2022, the EP IV in 2023 and their seventh album No Love Lost to Kindness in 2026.
