Biography
TOPS is an indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Formed in 2011 by Jane Penny (vocals, keyboards) and David Carriere (guitar), the group emerged following the dissolution of their previous synthpop band, Silly Kissers. Their debut album, Tender Opposites, was released in 2012, received positive reviews and was named one of Gorilla vs Bear's top albums of that year. The group's second studio effort, Picture You Staring, followed in 2014, featuring artwork by Los Angeles-based artist Jessica Dean Harrison. Marta Cikojevic joined the band as a keyboardist and backing vocalist in 2017. Their subsequent album, Sugar at the Gate, was released in 2017, alongside notable singles such as "The Hollow Sound of the Morning Chimes" (2015) and "Petals" (2017). I Feel Alive, TOPS' fourth full-length album, was released in 2020. In 2025, the band followed with Bury the Key.
