Biography

Jason Raymond Cannon, known as Young Shanty, was born on December 16, 1980, in the United States. He began his music career as the lead singer of Starliner, releasing their debut album Lion Fyah in 2007. After leaving the band, he embarked on a solo career under the name Ras Iyahson and released More Hot in June 2009. In 2012, Cannon adopted the stage name Young Shanty and released his EP Chalice Row or Dig a Hole in 2016. The EP debuted at Number 1 on Billboard's reggae albums chart and remained there for three weeks. Notable singles from this period include "Kush n Grabba" (2015), "Last Hit" featuring Jahdan Blakkamoore (2016), "I Try" (2016), and "More Weed" featuring Sizzla & Ras Rap (2017). Young Shanty has performed alongside artists such as Dead Prez, Wu-Tang Clan, Cappadonna, Killah Priest, Kymani Marley, Beenie Man, Inner Circle, and Half Pint.
