Keznamdi McDonald, simply known as Keznamdi, is a Jamaican reggae artist from Kingston who grew up in a touring musical familyâhis parents fronted the band Chakulaâand spent part of his childhood outside Jamaica (including time in East Africa) before later relocating to the United States for college. After a soccer scholarship period ended with an injury, he refocused on music and introduced himself with the EP Bridging the Gap (2013), setting out a style that paired roots phrasing with contemporary melodies and a clear lyrical emphasis on identity, faith, and social realities. He followed with Skyline, Vol. 1 (2017), then moved into a more album-led run with Count My Blessings (2019) and Bloodline (2020), expanding his songwriting from personal testimony to broader cultural themes while keeping a modern, hook-aware approach. Through the early 2020s he stayed active with singles and collaborations that built toward his next full statement, including tracks like âIdentity Crisisâ and âPressureâ (2024) and âTimeâ (2025). That buildup culminated in BLXXD & FYAH (2025), a project that widened his feature list and reinforced his balance of roots instrumentation and contemporary structure, with guest spots that included Kelissa, Masicka, Mavado, and Marlon Asher. In 2026, BLXXD & FYAH won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album, marking a major career milestone and placing Keznamdi among the most visible new-era Jamaican reggae voices of the decade.
