Biography

As the son of reggae legend Bob Marley, Stephen Marley has always sought to progress his father's legacy and beliefs, while building his own well-respected career that's included winning six Grammy awards. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, USA, but raised in Kingston, Jamaica, he began performing at just six-years-old and cut his teeth playing guitar with his elder brother's group Ziggy Marley And The Melody Makers. The band, which also included his sisters Sharon and Cedella, toured the world and released eleven studio albums between 1979 and 2001, before Stephen went on to collaborate with younger brother Damian on the album Educated Fools under the name Marley Boyz. In addition to his reggae roots, he also developed a love of R&B and hip-hop, which led him to feature on tracks by The Fugees, Erykah Badu and Eve, and his debut solo album Mind Control included guest contributions from rapper Mos Def and singer-songwriter Ben Harper in 2007. An acoustic version of the album was also released, before follow-up Revelation Pt. 1 - The Root Of Life saw Marley return to a funkier, rocksteady style of roots reggae that grooved and swaggered and talked of African and Rastafari spirituality. Its sequel Revelation Pt. 2 - The Fruit Of Life followed in 2016 with a more electronic, contemporary sound, featuring dancehall, pop and hip-hop stars, including Iggy Azalea, Wyclef Jean, Sizzla and Busta Rhymes.
