Biography

Yasmin Evans was born on May 19, 1960 in London's Shepherd's Bush district. Born to an English mother and Jamaican father, Yasmin first excelled in sport. She played athletics and especially volleyball at a high level. In 1983, she began singing for the dance group The Biz, then became the voice of Coldcut's "Doctorin' the House " in 1988. In the summer of the same year, her song "The Only Way Is Up" became a massive hit throughout Europe. The Wanted album reached number three in the UK, before the tide quickly turned. The Wanted Remixes was still a small success in 1989, but her next two albums failed to chart, and Yazz disappeared from the scene in 1997. She then encountered the Christian faith, which helped her kick her alcohol addiction, and returned in 2008 with Running Back to You, an album of Christian music. In 2011, the album This Is Love bears witness to her new musical faith.
