Biography

Billy Childish & CTMF (The Chatham Forts, also named The Chatham Singers or The Chatham Musicians) is the garage rock project of alternative musician, painter and activist. Active since 2013 after the breakup of The Buff Medways, it continues its minimalist, mono fusion of raw British R&B, primitive blues and 1960s garage rock. Rooted in the "do it yourself" ethos that has characterized Billy Childish's career since The Milkshakes and Thee Mighty Caesars, CTMF offers incisive riffs, percussive rhythms and raw spontaneity, unconcerned with modern artifice. Their discography, which opened in 2013 with the albums All Our Forts Are with You and Die Hintertoisser Traverse, has continued steadily with Acorn Man (2014), SQ 1 (2016), Brand New Cage (2017), Brave Protector (2019) and Last Punk Standing (2019). In 2020, the compilation 1-8 brought together all sixteen previously released tracks on eight singles. This was followed by the albums Where the Wild Purple Iris Grows (2021) and Failure Not Success (2023).
