Wilbert Harrison, born Wilbert Harrison on 5 January 1929 in Charlotte, North Carolina, was an American R&B and rock'n'roll musician and singer. His first single "This Woman of Mine / The Letter" was released in 1953, followed by several other singles, such as "Nobody Knows My Troubles / Gin And Coconut Milk" and the Savoy Records releases like "Don't Drop It / The Ways Of A Woman". In 1959, he recorded "Kansas City / Listen, My Darling" for Fury Records. This rockabilly-styled cover of a Leiber/Stoller composition became his breakthrough hit, reaching number one on the pop charts and sticking around in the R&B charts for seven weeks. It was followed by a lawsuit from Savoy Records, leading to delays in his music releases until 1961. His later career included the release of "Letâs Work Together" in December 1969, which reached number 20 on the pop charts. He continued to record and perform with various labels like Sue Records and others over the years. Wilbert Harrison died of a stroke on 26 October 1994 at the age of 65.
