Biography

Violet Helen Carson, also known as Violet Carson, born on September 1, 1898, in Ancoats, Manchester, was a British actress of radio, stage, and television, singer, and pianist. She began her career as a cinema pianist providing musical accompaniment for silent films before transitioning to singing. In 1961, she released her first EP, Violet Carson Sings and Plays for You. Carson's extensive radio career included regular appearances on BBC Radio shows such as Songs at the Piano and Children's Hour, where she performed a range of material from comic musical hall songs to light operatic arias. She also recorded an album, Stars On Sunday: Miss Violet Carson. Carson was named ITV Personality of the Year in 1962 for her portrayal of Ena Sharples on the television soap opera Coronation Street, a role she played from 1960 to 1980. She died on December 26, 1983, at the age of 85.
