Victor Edward Jurusz Jr., known professionally as Vic Juris, was an American jazz guitarist born in Jersey City, New Jersey on September 26, 1953. He began learning guitar at age 10 and developed a keen interest in jazz. In his late teens, Juris played rock music before making his recording debut on Eric Kloss's album Bodies' Warmth (1975). He released his first solo album, Roadsong, in 1979. Throughout his career, Juris collaborated with notable musicians such as Larry Coryell, Biréli Lagrène, Gary Peacock, and David Liebman. He also taught at institutions including The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Juris released numerous albums as a leader, including Horizon Drive (1980), Bleeker Street (1982), Bohemia (1988), For the Music (1992), Pastels (1996), and Eye Contact (2018). In 2019, Juris was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer and passed away on New Year's Eve.
