Biography
Javier Vargas, born on January 20, 1958, in Madrid, Spain, is a blues and rock guitarist and founder of the Vargas Blues Band. At five years old, his family emigrated to Argentina, where he received a Spanish guitar from his father and obtained his first electric guitar at twelve. As a teenager, he traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, before moving to Los Angeles, California, to perform in clubs and work as a session guitarist. At seventeen, he worked as a guitarist on a Caribbean cruise ship. He returned to Spain in the late 1970s and joined the band of Miguel RÃos, co-writing songs and recording albums such as Los viejos rockeros nunca mueren (1979). In 1991, Vargas formed the Vargas Blues Band and released the debut album All Around Blues (1991). The band's subsequent releases included Madrid-Memphis (1992), featuring collaborations with Carey Bell and Louisiana Red, and Texas Tango (1995), recorded with Double Trouble. Their album Blues Latino (1994) featured Andrés Calamaro and Junior Wells, and the title track was later recorded by Carlos Santana.
