Vanilla Mood is a Japanese classical crossover band originally formed as a quartet in 2003 by music university students aiming to create innovative genre-blending music. The original members were Yui (violin), Mariko (cello), Keiko (piano/vocals), and Emilee. Known for their creative arrangements that fuse classical instrumentation with pop, jazz, and global influences, Vanilla Mood gained popularity through regular appearances on NHKâs Ohiru desu yo! Fureai Hall from 2004 to 2005. Following Emileeâs departure in 2005 and Wakaâs addition, the group continued to perform and expand their fanbase, holding concerts across Japan. They released several albums and singles, including their 2006 debut Vanilla Mood, Shizuku (2006), and the single âAjuka" (2007). A highlight in their discography is the 2010 release of Tales Weaver Exceed by Vanilla Mood ~~Tales Weaver Presents 6th Anniversary Special Album~, tied to the popular online game Tales Weaver. After Wakaâs departure in 2010 due to musical differences, the band continued as a trio, alternating between acoustic sets and band-backed concerts. However, as members increasingly pursued solo careers, Vanilla Mood gradually scaled back its activities. With Marikoâs exit from their agency in 2013, the band entered an indefinite hiatus, effectively pausing their collective musical output.
