Biography

American singer-songwriter and musician Meghan Remy (born in Chicago, 1985) adopted the name U.S. Girls in 2007 for a series of alternative, electronic pop releases that began with Fravel Days in 2008. Experimental in nature, they featured crude percussion and vocal recordings until her 2011 release U.S. Girls on Kraak, which was produced by her Canadian musician husband Max Turnbull, known as Slim Twig. Her album Half Free (2015), released by 4AD, was nominated as Alternative Album of the Year in the 2016 Juno Awards in Canada and shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. Subsequent albums In a Poem Unlimited (2018) and Heavy Light (2020) showcased her political edge and innovative production. On February 2023 followed her eighth full-length Bless This Mess, with tracks recorded during her pregnancy. The same year was released her first live album, Lives, blending a mix of alternative pop, neo-psychedelia, soul and disco. Conceived after a festival performance in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she collaborated with Nashville-based musicians, the following album Scratch It (2025) was recorded in the country city, featuring a wide range of genres including country, gospel, garage rock, soul, and folk. The lead single, "Bookends", is a 12-minute tribute to the late Power Trip frontman Riley Gale.
