Biography

A rock band from the Washington D.C. scene, Unrest was formed in 1983 by Mark Robinson (guitar), founder of the TeenBeat Records label. Combining various currents of '80s alternative rock, from arty post-punk to jangle pop, lo-fi and noise rock, the band made several confidential albums before broadening its audience in the '90s with the arrival of bassist Bridget Cross, who also sang with Air Miami. Thus, the albums Imperial f.f.r.r. (1992) and especially Perfect Teeth (1993), produced by Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran, met with an international audience, simultaneously with the success of Pixies and The Breeders. After splitting up and reuniting twice, in 2005 and 2010, Unrest's last cult studio album was reissued on a double CD for its 30th anniversary.
