Biography

British indie-pop band The Primitives were formed in Coventry in 1984. The original line-up included Paul "PJ" Court on vocals and guitar, Steve Dullaghan on bass guitar, Peter Tweedie on drums, and Keiron McDermott on vocals. Tracy Tracy replaced Keiron McDermott as the lead vocalist in 1986. The Primitives released their early singles on Lazy Records before signing with RCA in late 1987. Their debut studio album, Lovely, released in February 1988, reached number six on the UK Albums Chart and produced two top 40 hit singles: "Crash" (UK number five) and "Out of Reach" (UK number 25). In 1989, they released their second studio album Pure, preceded by singles "Way Behind Me", "Sick of It" and "Secrets". Following the release of their third studio album Galore (1992), the Primitives went their separate ways. Steve Dullaghan died in February 2009, after which the band regrouped with new bassist Raphael Moore. The Primitives released the EP Never Kill a Secret in March 2011 and continued to release albums, EPs and singles, including Spin-O-Rama (2014) and New Thrills (2017), while touring internationally. In 2025, they released the compilation album Let's Go Round Again • Second Wave Singles & Rarities 2011-2025.
