Biography

The Indonesian pop/rock band Ungu was formed in Jakarta in 1996. After releasing the albums Laguku and Tempat Terindah during the early 2000s, the group experienced a surge in popularity with 2005's Melayang, which became a double-platinum success throughout Indonesia and Malaysia. Ungu maintained its reputation as one of Indonesia's most successful bands throughout the following decade, winning Indonesian Music Awards for their 2006 EP, SurgaMu, as well as the singles "Kekasih Gelapku," "Dengan NafasMu," and "Cinta Gila." Meanwhile, the group's lineup fluctuated, with bassist Makki O. Parikesit, drummer M. Nur "Rowman" Rohman, and frontman Sigit Purnomo Syamsuddin "Pasha" Said serving as Ungu's longest-running members. Pasha became the Deputy Mayor of Palu in 2016, requiring the band to hire Franco "Enda" Medjaya and Arlonsy "Onci" Miraldi to serve as temporary singers during his absence.
