Biography

Nidji is an alternative pop band from Jakarta, Indonesia. It was formed by friends Ramadhista Akbar (guitar) and Andro Regantoro (bass), who began playing together in 2002. The group's lineup was completed with the addition of lead singer Giring Ganesha, guitarist Andi Ariel Harsya, keyboardist Randy Danistha, and drummer Adri Prakarsa. Heavily influenced by acts like Coldplay and The Killers, the group made its debut in 2006 with the album Breakthru, which helped the group win Best New Artist at the MTV Indonesia Awards. "Heaven," the album's lead single, gained traction after being used in promotional videos for the third season of the American superhero drama Heroes in Southeast Asia. The band continued their winning streak in 2007 with an English language version of their studio debut and a second LP titled Top Up. Over the next few years, Nidji contributed to the soundtrack of the film Laskar Pelangi (2008) and returned in 2009 with their third full-length, Let's Play. The double album Liberty Victory saw the light in 2012 and was followed by the 2013 single "Sumpah Dan Cinta Matiku," a song from the film Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck that won Best Original Soundtrack Film at the Indonesian Music Awards. In 2017, Nidji returned to the scene with their fifth studio LP, Love, Fake & Friendship.
