Biography

Ulla Pia Nielsen, born on February 17, 1945, in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a Danish singer who began her career performing with local groups and orchestras. In the mid-1960s, she collaborated with jazz musician Finn Ziegler. Her breakthrough came in 1966 when she won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix with "Stop - mens legen er go'" and represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest. Despite finishing at number 14 out of 18 contestants, her performance was notable for featuring two dancers on stage. Following her Eurovision appearance, she released popular singles such as "Karina" and "Flower Power Tøj". She toured extensively in the 1970s but retired from the music industry due to family commitments and health issues towards the end of the decade. Nielsen passed away on August 22, 2020.
