Biography

Born on March 7, 1969, in Dabhol, India, Sadhana Sargam is an award-winning Bollywood playback vocalist who provides the singing voice in many Bollywood films. She has performed songs in 34 languages including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. Sadhana Sargam has sung close to 15,000 songs for films as well as her own releases and other projects. She began her career at a very young age, singing in children’s choirs and working with Indian film composer Vasant Desai, providing vocals for documentaries and children’s films. In 1982, she made her playback debut in the films Kanku Pagli and Vidhaata. She built up a respectable career as a playback singer throughout the rest of the 1980s, making her big breakthrough in the early 1990s when she had become one of the most in-demand female vocalists in India. She had a series of hits with songs such as “Saat Sumdar Paar” from the 1992 film Vishwatma. Outside of her playback recordings, she also sang theme songs to television serials and released albums and singles containing tracks that were not specifically recorded for film or TV. Of her thousands of Bollywood recordings, over 100 of those songs have been duets with fellow playback singer Hariharan. Sadhana Sargam has been honored with many awards throughout her career from the Filmfare Awards, Zee Cine Awards, Orissa State Film Awards, Zee Gaurav Puraskar, and the National Film Awards among others.
