Toumast, a Nigerien band, was formed in the mid-1990s by Moussa Ag Keyna. The group emerged from the Tuareg community and is named after the Tamasheq word for "the people" or "the nation." Moussa Ag Keyna, an ex-combatant of the Tuareg struggle who had sought refuge in France, established Toumast as a continuation of Tinariwen's musical legacy. The band gained initial recognition through live performances across France and Belgium, including notable appearances at festivals like Les Vieilles Charrues. Their debut album, Ishumar, was released on October 2006 under Village Vert - Wagram. In 2009, they followed up with their second album, Amachal, released by Green United Music.
