Biography

Senegalese guitarist, percussionist and singer Baaba Maal (b. 1953) is one of the best-known exponents of African music, on a par with his compatriots IsmaÃ«l LÃ´ and Youssou N'Dour. His albums, a blend of tradition and modernism, have enjoyed widespread international acclaim since the 1990s, notably Firin' In Fouta (1994), Nomad Soul (1998) and TÃ©lÃ©vision (2009). In 2016, the United Nations Ambassador released what is his eleventh album, The Traveller, as a summary of his activities.
