Biography

Thodur Madabusi Krishna is an Indian Carnatic vocalist and activist born on 22 January 1976 in Madras. He began his musical training under Bhagavathula Seetharama Sharma and later studied with Chingleput Ranganathan and Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. Krishna made his concert debut at age 12 and has since performed at venues such as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is known for popular renditions of “Jambupathe” and “Manavinala”. Beyond performance, he is a prolific author of works including A Southern Music: The Carnatic Story and Sebastian and Sons. In 2016, he received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for his commitment to healing social divisions through art. Krishna made his debut as a playback singer in 2019 with the song “Venpura” for the film Gypsy. He was awarded the Sangita Kalanidhi in 2024 by the Madras Music Academy.
