Biography

One of the first signings to acclaimed producer Babyface's new label LaFace Records, the all-girl trio TLC went on to become huge stars with their brand of strutting hip-hop, R&B and new jack swing. Led by Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes's high pitched, cartoonish raps with Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins and Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas's sweet, soulful vocals, the group's debut 'Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip' in 1992 launched them as a gang of strong, sexy, urban women with the singles 'Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg', 'Baby-Baby-Baby' and 'What About Your Friends' all making the US top ten. Follow-up 'CrazySexyCool' in 1994 became their pop masterpiece winning two Grammy Awards, selling over 11 million copies and producing the US number one 'Creep' and the huge worldwide hit 'Waterfalls'. 1999 brought 'Fanmail' which gave them their first US number one album and 'No Scrubs' became one of their biggest anthems, but Left Eye died in a car crash in Honduras in 2002 shortly before the release of their fourth album '3D'. After a greatest hits album was released in 2004, with only moderate sales, T-Boz and Chilli decided to take a break. Over the next few years they made several sporadic appearances but didn't make the final decision to reform until 2015 when they announced that their fifth album would be funded through Kickstarter. They achieved their goal in less than 48 hours making it the fastest funded pop project in the website's history. Later that same year they embarked on their first tour in 15 years, round North America with Nelly and New Kids On the Block. After two brand new singles, 'Way Back' and 'Haters', were released, the album, 'TLC', emerged with the announcement that it would be their final record. TLC will always stand as one of the most successful girl groups of all time with sales of over 65 million records worldwide and their legacy influencing the likes of Destiny's Child, Pussycat Dolls and Sugababes.
