Biography

Tigerstyle is a Scottish rock ensemble from Glasgow established in 1997. The group consists of the musicians Raj Singh and Pops Singh. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by folkhop, which combines Punjabi folk with hip hop and electronic music. The ensemble was founded after the musicians created the disc jockey collective Desi Bombsquad Sound System. Their project name was inspired by Shaolin Tiger Style and the martial art Gatka. Their recording career began with the studio recording The Rising (2000) and the song “Nachna Onda Nei” (2000). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the song “Nachna Onda Nei” (2000) reaching number 62 in the United Kingdom in 2008 after appearing on the television program Britain’s Got Talent. Tigerstyle achieved professional recognition for signing with the label Nachural Records. They achieved professional recognition for collaborating with the musicians Lisa Maffia and Raghav and the music directors Pritam, Sachin Jigar, and Ram Sampath. The ensemble achieved professional recognition for performing on the radio program John Peel Sessions, the concert Electric Proms Asian Network, and at the Glastonbury Festival. Their discography included the studio recording Digi-Bhang (2013) which fused bhangra with electronic dance music. They achieved professional recognition for performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013.
